OK - i think im just going to have to admit defeat in the blogger world and accept the fact that i was never meant to keep a blog and actually update it...
Today i am heading home after 103 days of being on the road. In just under 10 hours i will be sat in an airport (with Meg) waiting to board the 13 hour flight back to London Heathrow.
So, i think the last time i got round to updating i was in Surfers Paradise which is no paradise at all. In fact the built up, over tacky sea side town was probably nearer to hell... it didn't help the fact that the weather (and surf) was not on our side so we spent a large amount of time hiding from the wind and rain in shopping centres and our hostel room which had a TV.
After Surfers we headed on up to Brisbane where we got to spend less than 12 hours (reminiscent of Wellington) having to evacuate our hostel in the RAIN at 11.30pm due to a fire alarm :( The following morning we got back on the OZ bus and headed onto Noosa where we spent a lovely 3 nights. While there we went on lots of walks in the national park, sat in lots of cafes and went to the cinema to see Ghosts of Girlfriends Past (a truly girlie chick-flick). However due to stormy weather the beaches were "closed" so there was no swimming (or surfing much to Megs dismay as the waves were HUGE) for us.
After Noosa we went to Rainbow beach (where we actually saw a rainbow over the beach!). This was where we planned to go to Fraser Island from although due to the weather the Island was evacuated the day we arrived. This meant our trip was cancelled on the Sunday, luckily we managed to move it to the Monday and got to spend a day wandering around. The one street with shops and cafes on took about 2mins along and 5 to do a circuit (including popping into the occasional shop). We got the free mini bus up to the sand blows to waste some time and they were really pretty but broke my camera :(
Fraser its self was cool but nothing to write home about. We got to see and swim in the crystal waters of Lake Mckenzie and see the ship wreck, coloured sands and Eli creek as well as the rain forest.
Next stop was Kroombit - a cattle station in the middle of the outback. There we went horse riding to muster goats, learnt to crack a whip and lasso and took part in a goat rodeo!! In the evening there was organised "fun" which included a talent contest and the limbo...
The following day we headed on up to Airlie Beach which is where we boarded our boat for the Whitsundays. We did a one night/two day trip which was amazing. The scenery was beautiful although i did end up spending more time being sick in the toilet thanks to a tummy bug which decided to attack the night before :( We went to Bettys Beach which is part of Whitehaven (or an extension..) although all i did was curl up in a ball and sleep while meg went on a walk and took loads of photos.
After Airlie we went to Magnetic Island which involved a ferry trip across to the Island. It was paradise over there. Our hostel was right on the beach and on our first day there we went for a walk along the beach to a few little shops and got a chocolate milkshake :D We also got to go sea kayaking and snorkeling while staying there. The highlight of our time on the Island had to be the Forts Walk where we saw a Koala in the wild!! It was actually awake which was amazing in itself as they can sleep for up to 23 hours a day the lazy things.
Next stop was Mission Beach where we got to spend two nights not doing much at all and just relaxing in the sun. We spent the majority of our full day there in the pool and reading in the shade although we did go for two long walks along Mission Beach with Karen and Sarah :)
After Mission we got on the Oz bus for the last time and headed up to Cairns, our last stop in Australia!! There we spent 4 nights enjoying the sun and the small city. We went on a reef tour out to the great barrier reef and went diving which was an awesome experience, epically in such a beautiful place. We also went to the wildlife dome which is a small zoo in a glass bubble on top of a Casino. There we got to look at all sorts of odd animals and birds and i got to hold a Koala :D
We managed to get free meals every night and when a bowl of rice and bland curry tastes nice because its free you know that you've been away too long!! We also went out to the Woolshed and Gilly's with Megs friends Kaite which was a laugh and spent the rest of our time by the lagoon (a free outdoor pool over looking the sea).
From Cairns we flew to Singapore via Darwin which is where are now. Since arriving here three days ago we have been on the Singapore flyer (like the London eye but bigger) and to Sentosa Island where we went Lugeing, up the skytower and the Merlion, around a course on the Segways and Lugeing before going to watch the night time water/fire/laser show which was pretty cool even if it was aimed at 5 year olds! The rest of our time has been spent avoiding the baking heat and humid conditions here, hopping from air conditioned mall to air conditioned mall.
That's about it in a nutshell (apologises for the length!!) so i guess i will see most of you very soon back in cold, rainy old England!!
